The Urban Sustainability Research Program at the Centre for Climate and Business Solutions (CCBS) is dedicated to advancing sustainable urban development through innovative research and data-driven insights. Our program explores the complex dynamics of cities, focusing on the intersection of urban infrastructure, environmental performance, and community resilience. By leveraging UBC's role as a living laboratory, we analyze various aspects of urban systems—including buildings, transportation, energy, and natural assets—to develop models and strategies that can decarbonize cities and support their transition to a sustainable future.

At the core of our research efforts is the Urban Data Lake, a comprehensive data infrastructure that serves as the backbone of our work. This platform aggregates and streams live data across UBC's campus, including energy usage, water consumption, and other critical urban metrics. The Urban Data Lake provides the foundational data and insights necessary for our predictive models, data visualizations, and strategic recommendations, empowering researchers, policymakers, and industry partners to drive sustainable solutions in urban environments.
