Official Academic Transcripts – What to Submit
UBC requires that transcripts must be official copies sent directly from the issuing institution OR forwarded in an unopened envelope sealed by the issuing institution. An official transcript bears an official seal and/or signature of the issuing institution, or has been produced on the institution's secured paper. Photocopies, email attachments, faxed copies and legally certified (notarized) copies are not acceptable and should not be submitted. Official transcripts become the property of the University.
Please note:
- If official transcripts were issued in a language other than English or French, a certified translation of your transcripts is required.
- If transcripts were issued under a previous name, name change documentation is required.
- Applicants must arrange for official transcripts from high school and/or post-secondary institutions to be sent directly to one of the Real Estate Division’s addresses.
- Information on how to obtain your high school transcript in Canada can be found on the Obtaining a High School Transcript webpage.
- Official Transcripts requests to your high school or post-secondary institution(s) typically incur fees when documents are forwarded to either one of the Real Estate Division’s addresses
UBC alumni and current UBC students are NOT required to submit UBC transcripts as part of the application process. The Real Estate Division has access to these records through the UBC student information system.
English Language Proficiency Requirement
This requirement is usually satisfied by providing proof of graduation from an English speaking high school or post-secondary institution (English 12 or equivalent), or by meeting one of the other English Language Proficiency standards.
An English language proficiency exam, either TOEFL (Test of English as a foreign language) or IELTS Academic, is required for all candidates whose degrees are from a university outside of Canada, USA, Australia, U.K., and New Zealand in which English was not the official language of instruction.
Only tests written completed 24 months prior to submission of an application are accepted. Official test results must be sent directly from the testing center to the Real Estate Division’s office.
Course Equivalencies and Transcript Reviews
Students who have completed previous post-secondary coursework may be able to apply those credits to Real Estate Division programs. Requests for transcript reviews should be made when completing the online Admission Form. A transcript review fee of $50 (Canadian transcripts) or $100 (non-Canadian transcripts) is required. Please see Course Equivalencies and Transcript Reviews for more details.
Mature Admission
Mature admission applies to:
- Students who have not graduated from high school
- Students who cannot satisfy all the requirements for regular admission
Mature applicants must submit all of the following:
- Letter of Intent - A letter which clearly defines your rationale in enrolling in the intended program.
- Resume - A complete summary of work-study and related personal experience.
- Official Transcripts - Provide all official transcripts, including high school and any post-secondary institutions you have attended, (see the Official Academic Transcripts section above for details). Also see information on Obtaining A High School Transcript.
- Proof of English Language Proficiency - Please refer to the English Language Proficiency standards .
Application Deadlines
It is very important that all documents and fees required for admission are received by the Real Estate Division by the admission deadline of the term you wish to enrol in. If all documents and/or fees are not received by the deadline it may delay your ability to meet the registration deadline for your term. If your application is completed after the registration deadline, you may not receive your course materials until after your course has begun, and this can affect your course progress. Should this happen, this can affect your ability to meet assignment, project or exam deadlines, and may cause additional late assignment fees to be applied. See Late Admission for details.
Applying Credits to Other Institutions
Students seeking to use credits earned in Real Estate Division programs as meeting admission or program requirements at other educational institutions, should first confirm with that institution’s registrar that the Real Estate Division credits will satisfy those programs’ requirements.
Retention of Academic Documents
All students applying to Real Estate Division programs should note that documents submitted in support of an application for admission are held for a period of 2 years only. Students who apply for admission and submit documents in support of their admission, but do not register in a course within 2 years of the date of admission, will be required to resubmit documents in order to maintain their admission status and be permitted to register in program courses.
Financial Support Options
UBC's Financial Support Options webpage outlines a number of potential sources for financial assistance, including scholarships, bursaries, grants, and loans, both within BC and across Canada. The Real Estate Division does not administer any aspect of any financial assistance program and cannot advise students regarding these program requirements. For questions of eligibility, students must contact the issuing organizations directly.
