BBRE Overview
The Bachelor of Business in Real Estate has been developed in a collaborative effort between the Real Estate Institute of British Columbia, the University of British Columbia (UBC), Thompson Rivers University, Open Learning (TRU-OL) and the Real Estate Foundation, with ongoing support from the Appraisal Institute of Canada (AIC).
The BBRE is a part-time post–diploma degree completion program allowing industry professionals to continue their careers while advancing their formal education beyond the diploma level. The BBRE is delivered by distance education methods and is offered by both UBC and TRU-OL . The program builds upon the foundation of the Diploma in Urban Land Economics or equivalent plus additional real estate, general education, business and elective courses. The real estate courses and several of the business courses will be delivered by the Real Estate Division, while an agreement with TRU-OL will enable students to obtain the required general education and business courses by distance education.
The curriculum has been developed in consultation with the real estate industry to ensure it meets the accreditation requirements of various professional associations.
Admission
Admission to the BBRE will require graduation from the Urban Land Economics Diploma or equivalent, with a grade point average of 2.0 (60%) or greater. Students will also be required to demonstrate proficiency in English.
University of British Columbia BBRE students must complete at least 50% of the course work (60 credits) at UBC in order to receive a degree from UBC. Evaluation of previous course work is subject to the Real Estate Division's Transfer Credit Policy. Students wishing to apply for transfer credit must forward their original transcript, review fee, and cover letter to the Real Estate Division. Transcripts will be reviewed and students will receive their personalized "program plan". The program plan will outline the number of advanced credits that have been granted and the student's remaining degree requirements. The cost for each challenge examination granted is $150.00. It is estimated that graduates of the Diploma Program in Urban Land Economics who have additional post-secondary education may take approximately six years to complete the degree on a part-time basis.
TRU BBRE students are required to complete a minimum of six senior level credits through TRU and are subject to the academic and administrative requirements of TRU.

Course Information
Real Estate Division courses are sophisticated, technical and specialized. Students should expect to commit at least ten hours per week (per course) to their studies and assignments. The material is not easy. Diligence, organization and self-discipline are essential. Most of the real estate courses are approximately 13 weeks in length and are offered in two Winter terms and some are also offered in the summer. Most students are working professionals and find one course per term manageable. Students wishing to accelerate their program may choose to take more than one course concurrently. Subject to prerequisites, students may take courses in any order.
Most TRU-OL courses are offered on a continuous enrollment basis with a maximum completion time of 30 weeks. For further information, visit the TRU website http://www.tru.ca/distance/, contact TRU (+1 250.852.7000 or toll-free in Canada: 1.900.663.9711), or email: student@tru.ca.
