UBC Sauder faculty have been awarded over $340,000 in 2019-2020 Insight Development Grants for their research, made possible by the Government of Canada’s Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). Six faculty members are leading research projects that received grant awards, and one is a co-applicant.
UBC Sauder recipients are:
- Guillermo Marshall, Assistant Professor, Strategy & Business Economics Division, for "How Strong are Weak Patents?: Evidence from the Pharmaceutical Industry”
- Jan Bena, Associate Professor and Chair, Finance Division, for "Stakeholder Culture and Pay Inequality within Firms"
- Lingtao Yu, Assistant Professor, Organizational Behaviour and Human Resources Division, for "Revisiting Abusive Leadership Through A Temporal Lens"
- David Clough, Assistant Professor, Organizational Behaviour and Human Resources Division, for "Software Hackathons and the Diffusion of Digital Platforms"
- Arslan Aziz and collaborator Gene Moo Lee, both assistant professors in the Accounting and Information Systems Division, for "Combating Fake Reviews"
- Katherine White, Professor, Marketing and Behavioural Science Division, was a co-applicant on "Transitioning to Good: When is Striving to be an Ethical Business as Good as Being One?"
SSHRC Insight Development Grants support research in its early stages. They enable the development of new research questions, as well as experimentation with new methods, theoretical approaches or ideas. Funding is provided to individuals or teams for projects of up to two years.
UBC overall is leading 35 projects that received a combined $2.1 million of 2019-2020 SSHRC Insight Development Grants, and has researchers named co-applicants and collaborators on an additional 11 projects.
