Professional Members of the Real Estate Institute of British Columbia are entitled to use the professional designation R.I.(B.C.). Successful completion of the Diploma Program meets the academic requirements for Professional Membership; applicants must also have been employed in the general real estate industry for three of the previous four years and must be so employed at the time of application.
Student Membership is available to anyone enrolled in the Diploma Program and/or to those who have completed the academic requirements but do not yet meet the necessary experience qualification.

Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM)
The Institute of Real Estate Management is a division of the Real Estate Institute of Canada. Institute of Municipal Assessors (IMA)
The Institute of Municipal Assessors recognizes completion of the Certificate Program in Real Property Assessment as meeting the core educational requirements leading to the AIMA and the MIMA designations. In addition, the IMA recognizes the BUSI 444 Case Study (Comprehensive Case Study) as being equivalent to the residential mass appraisal demonstration report.

International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO)

Alberta Assessors’ Association (AAA)
The Alberta Assessors' Association (AAA) is a provincial professional association that represents professional assessors. The AAA is recognized as the authority on Assessment practices.
The AAA is a regulated profession that grants the use of the Accredited Municipal Assessor of Alberta (AMAA) designation. The AAA is an affiliate organization of the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) and recognizes RES and CAE courses as meeting some of the requirements for the AMAA designation. The AMAA designation is also recognized as meeting the the eligibility requirements for licensing for a Fee Appraiser in Alberta.
The AAA recognizes the University of British Columbia Diploma in Urban Land Economics, Assessment Specialization, as an approved program that meets the core educational requirements for the AMAA designation.
Demonstration Appraisal Reports
The AAA deems the BUSI 499 Guided Case Study course administered by UBC as equivalent to the AAA Demonstration Appraisal Report experience requirement.

Appraisal Institute of Canada (AIC)
The Appraisal Institute of Canada recognizes the Diploma Program in Urban Land Economics as meeting many of the educational requirements for the CRA and AACI professional designations.
NOTE: Candidates must hold a degree from an accredited university in order to attain use of the AACI designation. However, this is an exit requirement, not an entrance requirement for candidacy and the degree may be completed during the period of candidacy. Effective January 1, 2006, the degree requirement also applies to candidates for the CRA designation.

For information about the real estate licensing courses, go to the Licensing Courses section of this website.
In addition, the courses of the Diploma Program may be recognized by the BCFSA as meeting some or all of the educational requirements for a real estate trading services, property management, or broker's licence.
Mortgage Brokerage:
The Mortgage Brokerage in BC course or all of the courses BUSI 111, 121 and 221 of the Diploma Program satisfy the requirements for registration as a Mortgage Broker in BC. However, these minimum educational requirements are subject to change, and you should check the Mortgages Registration Information on the BCFSA website for current requirements.
