Admission

A 4-year Bachelor degree with a minimum average of C+ or higher in the last 2 years of study or recognized equivalent from an accredited institution is required.

• For a competitive edge:  Overall average of B+ or higher

As degrees differ widely between countries, completion of a 1 or 2-year Master degree may be required in addition to a Bachelor degree. For more information, please refer to UBC Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies’ Master program requirements for the minimum years of study and credential required for the country where you completed your post-secondary studies.

Applicants from Canadian and American universities or colleges enrolled in the final semester of your undergraduate degree with no more than 5 courses remaining are welcome to apply and may be granted conditional admission to start UBC DAP following completion of the final term of study in the undergraduate degree program. 

Applicants must be able to speak, comprehend, and write fluently in English.

One of the following is required:

1. An undergraduate degree or graduate degree from a recognized university in which English was the official language of instruction.  Official verification from the university to confirm language of instruction may be required.

OR

2. An English language proficiency test, either TOEFL iBT or IELTS Academic.

• TOEFL iBT minimum overall score of 90, reading and listening with 22 each and writing and speaking with 21 each. Use University Institution Code 0517.
  • For a competitive edge:  Overall score of 100 or higher
• IELTS Academic overall score of 6.5 with no part less than 6.0
  • For a competitive edge:  Overall score of 7.0 or higher with a reading score of at least 6.5

You may be eligible for exemptions if you have completed courses of equivalent content and rigour in any of the following 7 foundation courses at a Canadian or American university or college.

•  Course(s) must be completed at a recognized Canadian or American university or college within 10 years of the program start date.
•  Minimum grade of C+ achieved; a higher grade may be required for courses taken at some universities, colleges, and/or poly-technic institutions.
• Course curriculum must demonstrate comparable breadth and depth to the UBC DAP course.

• Exemption requests must be submitted at the time of application.
• Applicants seeking exemptions are strongly recommended to submit their application and exemption request prior to the application deadline for their selected start date:

• All decisions regarding course exemptions are final and are not eligible for appeal.
• Exemptions granted are used only to determine prerequisite equivalency and to fulfill graduation requirements.
• Exemptions are not shown on the transcript as transfer credits.
• Exemptions are void should students choose to enrol in the exempted course.

At the time of completing your online application to UBC DAP, you will have the opportunity to request course exemptions.

For courses completed outside of UBC, an official transcript in envelopes sealed and endorsed by your home university are to be sent directly to the UBC DAP office. Alternatively, an official electronic transcript may be sent directly from your home university to dap@sauder.ubc.ca.

The UBC DAP office will notify you if a formal course evaluation is required for your exemption request. In these cases, original course outlines issued when the eligible courses were originally completed will be required along with a non-refundable exemption review fee of $50 per course.
