We provide you with access to self-assessment tools that will help you clarify your career direction. Throughout the program, coaches will help you develop and work through a personalized career development plan.

According to research, emotional intelligence is the strongest predictor of workplace performance—findings show that 90% of top performers have a high degree of emotional intelligence. Additionally, those with a high EQ have the potential to earn $29,000 more a year.

The RocheMartin - Emotional Capital Report (ECR) is a personalized leadership development tool that provides you with a comprehensive interpretation of your leadership potential based on an assessment of your emotional intelligence.

Therefore, all UBC Sauder students take the ECR Assessment as part their career development programming. After completing the assessment, students will meet with a career manager to find out more about how they can leverage and build EQ strengths to help you achieve career success. 

As a UBC MBA + MBAN Dual Degree student you will be assigned your own professional career coach. Your coaching relationship begins at orientation, continues throughout your time at UBC Sauder, and carries into your future career. You’ll get one-on-one advice and support to develop your unique professional brand, explore your career options and make powerful connections with potential employers.

Advance your career with the help of an experienced industry professional in one of the following mentorship or training programs. The style and format of the programs vary. Some are geared at getting you recruitment-ready, while others are skills focused, but all will help you advance your career.

The best way to learn is to do. This principle is a big part of the UBC MBA + MBAN Dual Degree program and it’s also a big part of what we offer at the Business Career Centre. You’ll get hands-on experience pursuing a summer internship or entrepreneurial or industry project where you can bring cutting-edge knowledge to real-world business problems. You’ll also be able to apply your classroom learning in business clinics and on the Global Immersion Experience program.

The Business Career Centre invests significant time and resources to develop relationships with employers, from dynamic start-ups to big global brands. As a UBC MBA + MBAN Dual Degree student you’ll be able to participate in:

• Company recruitment sessions

  More than 50 organizations host recruiting sessions virtually during the school year. These virtual events are a great way to learn about different companies, find out about job opportunities and network with prospective employers.

• Other networking events

  Network with UBC MBA and UBC MBAN alumni from a wide range of industries in a virtual environment.

• Student-run events

  Career-related events and conferences are also run by the MBA Society and student clubs.

Once admitted to the UBC MBA + MBAN Dual Degree program, you will have access to Career Options On-Line (COOL), Sauder’s jobs and events database. Through COOL, you can view and apply for job opportunities, schedule interviews, and sign-up for events and coaching appointments.

Conducting an effective interview is critical to your career progression. The Business Career Centre helps you develop and refine your interview technique through mock interviews with an experienced professional consultant.

The Hari B. Varshney Business Career Centre hosts a wide range of workshops and events to help you clarify your career goals and get the skills you need to succeed in the job market. We offer:

• Workshops on resume and cover letter writing, networking, interviewing and negotiations

• Mock interview practice

LinkedIn has become even more important than your resume. As a result, we take your online professional brand very seriously. From self and peer assessment, to workshops and critical feedback from your career coach, you will have the support you need to develop a strong digital brand and leverage this important tool.

The Business Carer Centre invests in external resources to support your exploration and development, including Evisors Webinars, WetFeet, Vault and more.  

The David Lam Management Research Library also has a wide range of resources to help you research industries, companies, and job opportunities. The library website complements these activities with a powerful research tool that provides remote access to an array of databases and resources. To help you find the information you need, the library’s staff offer individualized instruction on using the many available tools.

Once you have completed the UBC MBA+MBAN program and become a UBC Sauder alum, you have lifelong access to career support, including programming, events, and resources to build your skills, make connections, and advance your career.
