The UBC Sauder’s Centre for Climate and Business Solutions is proud to share that Caren Lombard, a faculty member and academic lead for the SME Climate Clinic, has been selected as a UBC Sustainability Fellow for her outstanding contributions to sustainability education. Caren will join a cohort of dedicated scholars working to advance sustainability initiatives across the University of British Columbia.

Caren’s expertise in curriculum development and climate-focused education has played a pivotal role in enriching UBC’s academic offerings. In 2022, she was awarded a Climate Education Grant to develop COMM486E: Climate-Focused ESG Reporting and Analysis, a groundbreaking course open to students across disciplines. As a pilot for the SME Climate Clinic, the course addresses the latest in sustainability reporting while providing students with experiential learning opportunities.

With a strong background in Finance and Climate Reporting, Caren has taught various courses that integrate interdisciplinary perspectives on sustainability, working with students from business, science, and arts backgrounds. Her goal is to foster cross-disciplinary collaboration to find actionable climate solutions.

Through the Sustainability Education Fellows program, Caren, alongside fellow applicants Tamara Etmannski and Qingshi Tu, plans to elevate carbon accounting and sustainability literacy across multiple faculties. This includes developing modular content on topics such as carbon accounting, embodied carbon, and life-cycle analysis, supported by interactive learning tools and student-led case study development.

We look forward to seeing Caren and her colleagues drive meaningful change in sustainability education at UBC.
