Thank you for your interest in our programs. We look forward to connecting with you.
UBC Sauder School of Business is redefining accessibility and flexibility in graduate business education with the Professional MBA (UBC PMBA) - online stream . The program delivers students the same high-quality academic experience as the traditional in-person UBC PMBA, with the key difference being that classes are conducted online rather than in person.
Designed for accessibility and flexibility
The UBC PMBA – online stream is tailored for ambitious professionals seeking to upskill without sacrificing their careers or personal lives. The innovative program combines the best of online learning with in-person connections, offering an experience that meets the demands of today’s business landscape.
“The in-person UBC PMBA program has been very successful for students in the Lower Mainland, but we realized there was an appetite from professionals further away,” says Alina Yukhymets, Director of MBA Programs at UBC Sauder. “Family responsibilities and distance to the UBC campus were barriers for many. Now also offered online, the PMBA provides the flexibility for working folks to overcome these challenges while maintaining the quality and rigour that UBC Sauder is known for.”
The online stream caters to busy professionals with online classes held twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The schedule allows students to balance their full-time jobs and other commitments while participating in an intensive academic program. To ensure the collaborative and networking benefits of an in-person program, students also participate in three professional residencies throughout the program—immersive, in-person experiences where they connect with peers and faculty and build lasting professional relationships.

Balancing work, life and education
Pursuing an MBA while working full-time requires careful planning and commitment. The online PMBA program is structured to support students in managing their time effectively. Classes are scheduled well in advance, and the program includes breaks during the summer months to help students recharge.
“We’ve designed the schedule with working professionals in mind,” says Yukhymets. “By holding online classes in the evening, we ensure that students can balance their studies with their other obligations. Highly motivated folks thrive in this program by planning ahead and creating balance between their personal lives and education. The residencies and online stream provide the flexibility they need to excel.”

Creating an interactive and immersive online learning experience
The online PMBA leverages digital learning tools and platforms to create an interactive and engaging learning environment. Classes are delivered from UBC Sauder’s state-of-the-art studios, equipped with advanced technology such as mirrored boards, virtual breakout rooms and real-time discussion features. This ensures that online PMBA students receive the same quality of education and engagement as those in the in-person cohorts.
“We’ve worked closely with our instructional technology and learning support teams to design an experience that’s dynamic and interactive,” Yukhymets shares. “Students are expected to turn their cameras on, participate in discussions and collaborate in smaller breakout groups. These features mimic the interactivity of a physical classroom, ensuring that students remain engaged and connected.”
Students also benefit from access to Sauder-organized events, such as career networking opportunities, which strengthen their professional ties.
Tailored career growth and global opportunities
The curriculum is designed to equip students with the skills and competencies needed to thrive in today’s quick and evolving business environment. The first year focuses on foundational knowledge, while the second year offers opportunities for customization through electives, allowing students to deepen their expertise and broaden their perspectives.

“Many of our students have more than five years of professional experience and are at a point where they want to either progress within their careers or pivot to new industries,” says Yukhymets. “The program provides them with the tools and knowledge they need to take that next step, whether it’s moving into leadership or exploring new opportunities.”
Career coaching is another integral component. Through UBC Sauder’s Business Career Centre (BCC), students receive one-on-one coaching and participate in tailored courses to align their education with their career aspirations. They also gain access to the Global Network for Advanced Management (GNAM) and Summer Study Abroad programs that offer online and in-person courses with international perspectives and an opportunity to travel and learn abroad.
Shaping the future of business education while preserving excellence
UBC Sauder is meeting the evolving needs of business professionals where they are, by offering a program that blends accessibility and flexibility with a quality education.

“It’s exciting to finally see this come to life,” says Darren Dahl, Dean at UBC Sauder. “We’re reaching students we couldn’t before, giving them the access and flexibility they need to succeed. Importantly, this initiative will continue to maintain the same high caliber of excellence and rigour that defines a UBC Sauder education.”
For professionals looking to take the next step in their careers, the online PMBA offers a unique opportunity to gain new skills, expand their networks and achieve their goals—all on their schedule.
