Jason Ding (MSc ’94)
Senior Partner, Director of Bain Greater China Digital Research Center, Bain & Company
Jason Ding is a Senior Partner in Bain & Company’s Beijing office. He is the Director of Bain Greater China Digital Research Center.
Jason has over 20-year experience in management consulting in Greater China, providing all-round management consulting services to leading MNCs and large SOEs operating in consumer products and retail, telecom, high tech. and PE industries, with scope covering growth strategy for large-scale enterprises, corporate brand strategy, sales and marketing, performance improvement, organization transformation, HR and other key areas.
Jason is the co-author of Bain annual white papers, e.g. China E-commerce Market Study, China Shopper Report, earning broad attention and acclaim from the consumer product and retail industry.
Jason spoke at major conferences such as Yabuli summit and top industry forums such as Wangfujing Business District Forum to share extensive industry experience and strong market insights. The top global and local business press also recognizes his views, including Wall Street Journal Asia, China Central Television, China Business News, China Business Journal and Harvard Business Review.
Jason is keen on charity and currently serves as a council member of Social Venture Partners (SVP) China.
Jason owns a M.Sc. degree from Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia and a B.Eng. degree from Tsinghua University.
Tim Silk
Associate Professor of Teaching, Marketing and Behavioural Science Division, UBC Sauder School of Business
Professor Silk specializes in brand management and new product development and works with organizations to identify market opportunities and bring new products to market. He is an award-winning teacher and researcher and has served as an advisor on consumer behavior, brand strategy, disruptive innovation, product development, and pricing to organizations such as Brand Finance, Best Buy, L’Oréal, McKesson, Miller Brewing, and Visa. He is passionate about bringing innovations to market and has assisted organizations form successful ventures in wearable technology, hardware, software, online retailing and financial services.
His research has been published in the premier marketing journals Journal of Consumer Research and Journal of Consumer Psychology and featured in news media such as CBC News, CBS News, Fortune, Globe & Mail, and U.S. News & World Report.
He is a strong advocate of using consumer behavior research to inform public policy and has advised on policy formation at government organizations including the Competition Bureau of Canada, U.S. Federal Trade Commission, U.S. Department of Energy and U.S. Government Accountability Office.
Before becoming a professor, Dr. Silk worked as a product manager in the beverage industry and as an account manager in the advertising industry. In his free time he enjoys hiking and skiing with his family.

Robert W. Helsley
Dean of UBC Sauder School of Business and Grosvenor Professor of Cities, Business Economics and Public Policy
Dr. Robert W. Helsley is the Dean of the UBC Sauder School of Business and the Grosvenor Professor of Cities, Business Economics and Public Policy at the University of British Columbia. He earned his MA and PhD degrees in Economics at Princeton University, and a BS in Economics (with honors) and Mathematics at the University of Oregon. He has published widely in the areas of urban and public economics, real estate and public policy.
Under Dr. Helsley’s leadership, the UBC Sauder School has seen its research profile strengthened, the introduction of innovative new programs and experiences for students, increased diversity and transparency in governance, development of innovative cross-campus collaborations, and expansion of the school’s global partnerships. During his tenure, the school has become a key driver of innovation and entrepreneurship both at UBC and in the larger community. His commitment to responsible leadership and the importance of values and ethics in business has fostered a culture of collaboration and respect, along with greater engagement and outreach to the external community.
Recently appointed to a second term, Dean Helsley has launched a strategic plan that articulates a new vision and mission for the school, building on the traditional strengths in research and teaching while advancing the school’s impact in emerging areas of societal importance. To support innovation and growth in the school’s graduate portfolio, Dean Helsley is set to embark on the development of a new home for the graduate school – the most significant expansion in the Sauder School’s history - that will also serve as both an innovation hub for inter-campus collaboration and a community gathering space.
Prior to becoming Dean at UBC Sauder, Dr. Helsley served as Senior Associate Dean, Faculty and Research from 2002 to 2008, and prior to this, as Director of the UBC Centre for Real Estate and Urban Economics, and Chair of the Urban Land Economics division. Between 2008 and 2012, before returning to UBC Sauder School of Business, Dean Helsley served at the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley as a Professor and Chair in Real Estate Development, and was a co-chair of the Fisher Center for Real Estate and Urban Economics. He has held a variety of editorial positions, including serving as co-editor of the Journal of Urban Economics from 2009 to 2012. His teaching has focused on courses in urban and real estate economics, managerial economics, and microeconomic theory.
