Storytelling Studio Fellowship
Co-create climate narratives with real-world ventures.
The Storytelling Studio Fellowship is the applied arm of the Climate Storytelling Studio. It offers students a hands-on opportunity to work directly with early-stage climate ventures and sustainability-focused companies to develop storytelling strategies that drive visibility, engagement, and impact.
For Students
As a Storytelling Fellow, you'll be embedded in a small interdisciplinary team and paired with a climate venture tackling complex sustainability challenges, such as material circularity, carbon removal, or clean energy innovation. Your team will collaborate with the company to understand its mission, target audience, and core value proposition, and then co-develop compelling storytelling materials designed for real-world use.
This may include:
-
A creative brief that clarifies the company’s purpose, story, and stakeholder communication strategy
-
1–2 prototype assets such as a short explainer video script, investor pitch deck, website copy, or other high-impact communication tools
Along the way, you’ll get coaching from mentors and industry experts in climate communication, marketing, and entrepreneurship, as well as academic support from UBC Sauder faculty.
For Companies
Many early-stage climate ventures have the science, but struggle to communicate their value clearly. The Storytelling Fellows Program pairs your team with students trained in storytelling and strategic communication to help you refine your narrative and develop practical assets that support your growth.
What you’ll get:
-
A creative brief that clarifies what you do, who it's for, and why it matters
-
1–2 storytelling assets tailored to your most pressing needs (e.g., pitch deck, messaging framework, copy for your website or LinkedIn)
-
A lightweight, high-value engagement with talented students and experienced mentors
-
An opportunity to sharpen your communication for investors, partners, and customers
This is ideal for science-based ventures or sustainability-focused companies with a validated solution but an evolving story. The time commitment is low-touch, with 3–4 scheduled points of engagement across the program.
Media & Production Studio
A creative space for student-led climate content.
The Media & Production Studio is the storytelling lab within the Climate Storytelling Studio—where students create original climate-focused media, including podcast series, video interviews, short features, and more.
It’s a space for students and faculty to explore how different communication formats can inform, engage, and shift perspectives around sustainability and business innovation.
What You Can Create
Students are encouraged to pitch and develop their own projects or contribute to ongoing series produced in the Studio. Formats may include:
-
Podcast episodes featuring founders, experts, or fellow students working on climate challenges
-
Video interviews with climate entrepreneurs and business leaders
-
Short explainer videos on sustainability topics or business innovation
-
Narrative features exploring emerging ideas and industries in the climate economy
We provide access to recording equipment, editing tools, production support, and faculty or industry advisors depending on the project scope. Whether you're a content creator, curious communicator, or just want to experiment with a mic and camera—there’s a space for you here.
